Volumes 5 and 6, St. Petersburg, 1848-1849. The biographies are compiled by the Russian military historian lieutenant-general A.I. Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky(1790-1848), the former aide-de-camp to the Emperor Alexander I, since 1845 editor-in-chief and author of many biographical essays in the Military Gallery, and guards colonel А.V. Viskovatov. Each biography is furnished with portraits copied from original works by the painters Klukvin and Dolle. Lithographs are made on cardboard and interleaved with flimsy. Compound bindings: leather spine and corners, patterned paper, 34 х 26.5cm., in satisfactory condition: missing 1 lithograph in vol.6., tears in spine of vol.5, minor staining on pages.
