Encyclopedia, or Explanatory Dictionary of Science, Art and Trades in 35 volumes as such was published between 1751 and 1780 under the editorship of Diderot, D"Alembert and Mouchon and became not only one of the symbols of the 18th century but also one of the most famous world editions. 248 plates engraved by Goussier and Bernard illustrate articles on mathematics, mechanics, hydraulics, optics, astronomy, geography, navigation, engraving etc. Gold stamped whole leather bindings, spine with stamped miniatures. Coloured patterned paper endpapers. All edges coloured and marbled. 26х40cm., in good condition: minor wear and soiling. The edition is of historical and collection value.
