Holland, Ducat 1818, struck by St. Petersburg Mint, gold 3.

45g, in XF-UNC condition. Bitkin№19(R ). Dutch ducats were struck by the Russian government between 1768 and 1867 and conventionally named "famous coin" , these coins were used by the Russian Treasury to finance foreign military expeditions and diverse foreign payments, even after Holland ceased minting these coins in 1849. St. Petersburg kept minting it till 1867 with the dies of the last year of issue. The present specimen shows the following distinct traces of St. Petersburg Mint dies: 5, 6, 12 according to Uzdenikov. "Counterfeit" ducats of 1818 are rare.
